How we ranked the top Metropolis movers
Why you should trust us
We take reviews seriously to protect people just like you! Our team has been crunching data on moving companies since 2010. Our math-based ranking system uses data, manual review, and statistical analysis to help you hire the best movers in Metropolis, IL.
Rating Methodology
Here's the methodology we used to come up with the best movers in Metropolis:
Our original review-based ranking algorithm
We started with a total of 25 companies that offer moving services in the Metropolis area.
From these 25 companies, we analyzed a total of 11,036 reviews dating all the way back to August 2005.
We also reviewed a total of 8 state and federal moving licenses from these 25 companies and 95 different 3rd party review and social profiles.
Each of the ~11,000 reviews was scored according to our detailed 11-point rating criteria
This gave us a total of 35,305 data points to compute individual company scores.
Reviews are time-weighted so that more recent reviews carry more weight. This helps you understand how a mover is doing today... not 5 years ago. We have 285 Metropolis moving company data points from the past 2 years that carry more weight.
Bayesian averages calculated to fairly account for the differences between companies that are newer(like Moving Mountains: Moving Services) vs older more established companies (like Stevenson Transfer).

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving in Metropolis
How much should you tip movers in Metropolis, IL?
Working with movers in Metropolis often comes with questions about gratuity. A good rule of thumb is to tip between 10-20% of the total moving cost or about $5 per mover per hour, especially if they’re carrying heavy items near the Ohio River or maneuvering through the busy streets around Massac County Courthouse. It’s smart to give a bit more if you notice they’ve gone above and beyond. And don’t forget to offer them an ice-cold sweet tea or a refreshing soda to help them recharge.
Is it cheaper to make a DIY move in Metropolis?
A DIY move can feel more economical, but you’ll want to keep an eye out for hidden costs like truck rentals, fuel, tolls, and the extra time needed to load everything yourself. Navigating local roads near Metropolis—especially around the Ohio River bridge—can get tricky, which may add to your stress. Before committing to this route, check out local truck rental options to make sure you’re prepared with the right vehicle and gear for a smooth move.
Should I hire labor-only movers?
If you already have a truck reserved but need help moving heavy furniture up narrow stairs in your Metropolis apartment by Fort Massac State Park, labor-only services might be perfect. You can hire hourly movers in Metropolis to handle just the loading and unloading, giving you freedom to manage your own schedule and budget. This option can be especially helpful for college students or anyone who’s comfortable driving a rental truck through the winding roads around southern Illinois but still needs a strong team for lifting.
What if I need to move something special like a piano or pool table?
Some moves call for extra attention, like transporting a piano from a downtown Metropolis loft or moving a pool table stored in a garage overlooking the Ohio River. Professional piano movers know how to safeguard delicate parts, while pool table movers can disassemble and level your table so it’s ready for play in your new location. Specialty movers also handle hot tubs, statues, and even gun safes, ensuring these heavy or fragile items arrive in top condition.
