How we ranked the top Scranton movers
Why you should trust us
We take reviews seriously to protect people just like you! Our team has been crunching data on moving companies since 2010. Our math-based ranking system uses data, manual review, and statistical analysis to help you hire the best movers in Scranton, PA.
Rating Methodology
Here's the methodology we used to come up with the best movers in Scranton:
Our original review-based ranking algorithm
We started with a total of 22 companies that offer moving services in the Scranton area.
From these 22 companies, we analyzed a total of 2,177 reviews dating all the way back to August 2011.
We also reviewed a total of 6 state and federal moving licenses from these 22 companies and 80 different 3rd party review and social profiles.
Each of the ~2,000 reviews was scored according to our detailed 11-point rating criteria
This gave us a total of 4,337 data points to compute individual company scores.
Reviews are time-weighted so that more recent reviews carry more weight. This helps you understand how a mover is doing today... not 5 years ago. We have 178 Scranton moving company data points from the past 2 years that carry more weight.
Bayesian averages calculated to fairly account for the differences between companies that are newer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving in Scranton
How much should you tip movers in Scranton, PA?
In Scranton, Pennsylvania, tipping your movers is a thoughtful way to acknowledge their hard work, especially when carrying heavy couches up stairwells in Hill Section or tackling tight spaces around the Electric City. Most locals recommend tipping 10–20% of the total moving cost or around $5 per mover per hour, depending on the complexity of your move. As a nice final touch, consider offering them something simple like a cold iced tea to show your appreciation for their efforts.
Is it cheaper to make a DIY move in Scranton?
Tackling your move on your own in Scranton, Pennsylvania might seem more budget-friendly, but it can get complicated with truck rental fees, gas costs, and unexpected delays on I-81. Be mindful of tricky turns in West Scranton or parking challenges near Nay Aug Park when driving a large moving vehicle. If you decide to go for a DIY move, find local truck rental options here to help you get started.
Should I hire labor-only movers?
If you’re aiming for a hands-on approach but still want some help with the heavy lifting in Scranton, Pennsylvania, then labor-only moves might be right for you. Whether you’re relocating near the University of Scranton or downsizing in Dunmore, hourly movers in Scranton can handle tasks like loading and unloading without adding extra costs for a truck or drivers.
What if I need to move something special like a piano or pool table?
For items like pianos, pool tables, or even statues that require special care on Scranton’s winding roads or older buildings in Green Ridge, it pays to hire professionals. Look for trusted local teams such as piano movers or pool table moving companies who know how to protect your valuables and navigate Pennsylvania’s unique terrain.
